Important Update: Changes to Real Device Automation Capabilities

As announced earlier, we are making a breaking change to Sauce Real Device Cloud automation capabilities, effective January 15, 2025. Starting on this date, Real Device App Settings values will only impact Live Testing tests.

With this change, the App Settings applied on the UI page will no longer apply to automated tests. To configure app settings for automated tests, users must pass in the respective capabilities properties.

Why are we doing this?

To provide greater control, help streamline workflows, and eliminate delays in validation and release of mobile app versions, we're now enabling customers with the following:

  • App Settings: Settings such as resigning, vitals, and others will now be managed only through automated test code, enabling version control, traceability, and faster debugging.
  • Lightweight Resigning: Newly uploaded apps will default to resigning with minimal or no instrumentation, ensuring customers can run untouched applications on real devices.
  • Enhanced Security: App Settings changes are restricted to Organization Admins, ensuring changes and modifications are authorized and always traceable.

How does this benefit you?

  • Get improved auditing of script changes and reduced pipeline flakiness.
  • Enable faster installation for Vitals and Network Capture, with no code injection.
  • Accelerate pipeline execution by decoupling resigning and instrumentation (code-injection).
  • Get the flexibility to enable Biometrics or Image Injection only for specific test cases.
  • Faster onboarding and fewer instrumentation-related crashes for larger orgs using SecureSDKs.
